Future Students

I would advise future students to READ. Reading seems to have gone by the way side. When you read a book, a magazine, or even another students essay, pay attention to how the writer has used the space available. Take note on the dialogue used for the particular writing, is it appropriate, does it grab your attention?

Some of the toughest aspects of English 101, was the development of an entire essay and making all of the thoughts connect. It is important to stop and read the literature as it is being developed. A writer can become lost in a particular thought, but forget what the literature was about originally. If your reading something that has importance to your writing, take notes in the margin (if applicable). These quick reference notes will allow you to arrange them accordingly and elaborate on the thought later.

The best tip I can give, is to simply re-read your work. Read it for clarity. A good way to do this is to read the literature starting from the last sentence to the first. This allows you to determine the structure of each sentence without your brain inadvertently filling in the gaps.

What I'm Taking With Me From ENG 101

My writing style has been affected by English 101, by enlightening me to realize who I am writing to. I have found that it does matter who, and what I am writing. If I were to write a letter to a fellow student, I might be able to get away with a less formal style, but if I were writing an email to a teacher, I would prefer a much more formal approach. This formal approach would include everything from correct spelling to good sentence structure.

My ENG Prof.
Many of the class was spent learning the rhetorical knowledge developed by Aristotle, a profound philosopher.

Logos: Logical
Pathos: Emotional
Ethos: Credibility

It has been proven, that an understanding of rhetorical syllogism does indeed create a more developed writer. I have personally seen a difference in my own writing. I take into consideration, and review my thoughts as I write, if I am following the rhetorical guidelines and not simply getting the thoughts out in no rhythmic order. Fully developed ideas, as well as proof from a credible source, allow the writer to express their thoughts intelligently. I will take all of this knowledge with me as I proceed to English 102 next semester.

What I Read

I generally prefer to read science fiction novels, I am currently reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,  which is a very colorful book, in terms of describing the underwater life in the ocean. The first part of the book flew by, but the second part slowed down due to the author always listing the Latin names of the fish encountered on the voyage. I have read many Stephen King books, and my favorite one is The Long Walk. I have read the first three books in the Dark Tower series, and I really enjoy the story, but they too can become a slow read.                                                         Dark Tower Official Website

When I'm not reading novels, I enjoy reading either gaming magazines, or magazines that are technology related.                       EGM

I also spend time reading the Bible, learning about Christianity and applying the learning's to my life. I find most of the stories, in the Bible, very interesting.

I am a college student as well, so I spend time researching for a particular class. I enjoy finding out how and why things work the way they do, so I research everything on the internet. I even find myself investigating things like how a guitar works, or how to make nachos!

Me

My name is Cody, and I am a college student at Arizona Western College. I came to this school in search for a degree in engineering, I soon found out there are many disciplines within engineering, so I chose mechanical engineering, but my true passion is aerospace.
I guess my passion for aerospace was always in my nature, but it hadn't surfaced until after I had been employed for British Aerospace Engineering. I thoroughly enjoyed this job because I was introduced to a whole new world that included testing military equipment such as the NLOS-Cannon. While working with BAE, I became a member of a team that worked and traveled together. I had the opportunity to visit military testing sites including White Sands New Mexico, where highly advanced tests are performed every day. I also had the opportunity to work with BAE's leading competitor, Oshkosh Defense. While BAE designed aggressive weapons, Oshkosh developed defensive vehicles, meant to protect the soldier.

I have no degree yet, but my goal is to attend the University of Arizona and graduate with a degree in aerospace engineering.

I would also like to mention I met my wonderful wife, Sarah, while attending school and I love every minute I spend with her.
